The Top 5 Female Masturbation Techniques

The best masturbation technique changes from woman to woman, depending on your body and sensitivity. But here are some of the most popular techniques to get you started:

Have you ever been caught masturbating?

1. Use Multiple Fingers
All too many women start with using one finger… and never try to use any more. You’d be amazed how much different a second or even a third finger can make. And that applies whether you’re inserting them or just rubbing your clit.

2. Vaginal Plus Anal
This popular technique involves double penetration. Insert your index and middle fingers into your vagina, and your pinky into your backdoor. Depending on the size of your fingers and hand, you can even use your thumb to rub your clit at the same time.

3. G-Spot Stimulation
Insert your middle finger and then curl it upward so the tip is pointing to your stomach. Then gently move it around until you find a small area that feels softer and spongier than the rest of your vagina. Congrats, that’s your G-Spot! Now gently stroke it for a deep and intense O.

4. Masturbation Toys
When it comes to masturbation, women have some great sex toys. Whether you want the stimulating power of a vibrator or a more discreet dildo, there are tons of fun options for you to try.

5. The Clit Squeeze
The clit is a lot bigger than you think – you just can’t see most of it. But you can stimulate all those sensitive hidden areas just the same. Place your fingers on either side of your clit. Then gently squeeze the folds of skin surrounding your clit while pressing down and inwards.

3 Tips for Better Masturbation

If all those new masturbation techniques aren’t enough to rock your boat, then these helpful masturbation tips are sure to make your toes curl!

1. Masturbating in the Shower
“There’s a reason why women in shampoo commercials are so happy, and it’s not the all-botanical formula. You can have tons of fun with a removable shower head, especially one with multiple massage options. The warm water streaming over your clit and other bits will make you late for work if you’re not careful!” -Sally F. from New Orleans

2. Hands-Free Masturbation
“Find a firm or semi-firm pillow. Bend it in half or roll it up and place it between your legs. Then just start grinding against the pillow until you explode.” -Kathleen A. from Chicago

3. Kegel Exercises
“Did you know that squeezing your vagina could give you stronger and longer-lasting orgasms? They’re called Kegel Exercises, and they’ve been around for ages. All you have to do is clench and unclench your vagina while holding in a pair of Ben Wa Balls multiple times a day. You can do it while sitting in traffic, watching TV or even during a meeting at work.” -Amanda S. from Boston

What Are The Best Female Masturbation Toys?

We talked with dozens of sex toy experts and experienced masturbators before coming up with a list of the top three toys for female masturbation, starting with:

Lube
Many women underestimate the importance of lube, especially when they’re younger. When it comes to sex toys and masturbation, lube is an essential element that can be used to enhance your experience – especially if you pick a warming or flavored lube.

Rabbit Vibrators
Rabbits are some of the most popular sex toys in the world for a reason – namely their ability to deliver mind-blowing orgasms. These sex toys stimulate multiple erogenous zones at the same time to help you climax… even if you typically have problems finishing. No wonder so many women prefer rabbits when it comes to masturbation!

Dildos
Designed to fill you up and leave you satisfied, dildos are ideal for women interested in vaginal stimulation. These sex toys never need batteries and don’t make any loud or distracting noises. You can use suction-cup dildos in a variety of positions and in places where vibrators can’t go!

Female Masturbation FAQs

Adam & Eve has been getting a ton of questions lately about masturbation, so we recently sat down with our resident expert, certified sexologist Dr. Jenni Skyler, to get the inside scoop on these common questions:

1. What is mutual masturbation?

Mutual masturbation is when two or more people masturbate in front of each other. It can be done to completion or as a type of foreplay. "Many couples engage in mutual masturbation as an alternative to intercourse or oral sex," Dr. Jenni said. Mutual masturbation can be done in the same room or from halfway around the world thanks to technology. Many couples in long-distance relationships engage in mutual masturbation while skyping.

2. How can you comfortably masturbate in a mutual way with a partner?

It might be awkward at first, but mutual masturbation is actually a great way to strengthen your relationship. "Ironically, many couples feel that mutual masturbation is one of the most intimate and vulnerable activities possible," said Dr. Jenni. She added that you can leave some of your clothes on or use candles until you're comfortable with mutual masturbation.

3. Why do people masturbate?

People masturbate primarily for fun. "As humans, we are a pleasure-seeking species, and masturbation is a key source of that pleasure," Dr. Jenni explained. While there are many positive benefits to masturbation - including stress reduction, better health and a more enjoyable sex life, it always comes down to fun at the end of the day.

4. Does masturbation help cramps?

Masturbation can indirectly help cramps. When you have an orgasm after masturbating, the brain fires off pleasure-inducing hormones called endorphins that make you feel better and help reduce pain - including the pain from cramps. Some people argue that masturbation actually eases cramps by reducing muscle stress and tension, but this is isn't a sure thing.
