National Inventors Month & the Vibrator

Did you know that August is National Inventors Month? It is intended to celebrate invention, creativeness and vision. The event began in 1998 by the United Inventors Association of the USA. So... we thought we'd give you a little history of the creation of something very near and dear to our hearts (well, maybe not our hearts), the vibrator.

The electrically powered vibrator was invented by Kelsey Stinner in the 1880s! Doctors used it to treat women experiencing female hysteria and congestion of the genitalia. This was once a common medical diagnosis but is no longer recognized today as a medical disorder. Symptoms included faintness, nervousness, fluid retention, heaviness in the abdomen, loss of appetite for food or sex and others. To treat female hysteria, doctors would perform a "pelvic massage" using with either manual stimulation or with the vibrator.

In 1902, the American company Hamilton Beach patented the first electric vibrator for retail sale. The home versions became very popular and advertised in several periodicals and the Sears & Roebuck catalog. They began to disappear in the 1920s because society began to view them as having sexual connotations.

In the 1980s, the vibrator as well as other sex toys became much more popular. Today, vibrators enable people to achieve orgasm quickly and easily. Also, vibrators are reported to provide more intense orgasms compared to those produced by manual stimulation.

There are many types of vibrators such as the following:

Clitoral: While the ultimate goal is always a screaming orgasm some clit vibrators are better used for getting started with softer vibrations that taunt your clit until you're so hot you can't wait to get down to business. You can also use clit vibrators while having sex, many of these toys are small enough to use during penetration or can be held against the balls for testicular stimulation. With such a wide range of clit vibrators there's a sex toy for everyone.

Rabbit: Rabbit Vibrators are perhaps the most ubiquitous women's adult toy to date since its showcase on HBO's Sex and the City. With his powerful vibrating ears, the rabbit vibrator will turn your clit into a screaming orgasm machine.

Anal: Anal vibrators and vibrating butt plugs are sex toys designed with anal stimulation in mind and are popular with women and men. Most anal vibrators are designed with a slim shaft for easy insertion and bumps or ridges for stimulation.

G-spot: G-spot vibrators are designed with a curved shaft to massage and tantalize the G spot to achieve the ultimate female orgasm. Almost any vibrator can be used to stimulate the G-spot with the right positioning. However, for the best results a sex toy with a bulbous, angled head is your best bet.

Bullet-Eggs: Bullet and Egg vibrators are some of the smallest and most discreet sex toys. Bullet vibrators are usually no longer than 3 inches and are a great sex toy for travel.

So why not celebrate National Inventors Month by grabbing yourself a vibe?
