Hillsborough, NC - PHE, Inc, the parent company for Adam & Eve, is known for its positive practices as an employer, as evidenced by its recognition given by the Hillsborough, NC Chamber of Commerce several years ago. Now it is being recognized for its employee wellness initiatives as well. It was recently nominated for the 2008 North Carolina Association of Healthy Communities (NCAHC) Eagle Award for Improving Health in North Carolina Communities.
“The biggest surprise for me was seeing that employees really want to improve their health. They just don’t know what to do or how to reach their goals,” says Tom Underwood, Director of Human Resources. “A well-developed plan that includes milestones and incentives seems to be the answer.”
NCAHC held its 8th annual conference and awards ceremony in early October 2008. Each year, the NCAHC recognizes an organization or employer who has demonstrated compelling vision, leadership and excellence in their commitment to improving health outcomes in North Carolina communities. PHE was one of a select few area companies honored with a nomination this year.
PHE started its employee Wellness Program in late 2007, with incentives and educational opportunities. It regularly has events in-house to encourage active and health-conscious employees, in addition to a reward system for reported physical activity. After a health screening on site in spring of 2008, the number of participating employees jumped over 125% from the same type of screening offered in 2006.
