Anal sex can truly be a great experience for a couple. It's a nice way to mix things up every now and then and it can actually lead to a heightened sense of intimacy between the two of you. First things first though…

• Be prepared - Don't wait until the heat of the moment to get lubes, condoms etc lined up before the action commences.

Things are getting hot and heavy in the bedroom. But before they go further, you stop and reach into the nightstand. You grab a condom.

Nice going! Condoms are easy to find, simple to use, and are highly effective at protecting you and your partner from sexually transmitted infections. They're also a preferred method of birth control. According to the Guttmacher Institute, over 16 percent of couples rely on condoms as their main form of contraception.

Condoms are sheaths, most commonly made of latex, that slip on over a man's erect penis before sexual contact. When he ejaculates, his semen stays in the condom. On their own, latex condoms are 85% effective at preventing pregnancy when used properly. That number only goes up when combined with another method like the birth control pill.

And with consistent and correct use, condoms are effective at preventing sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV. In many cases, STIs can be unrecognized or not show up with symptoms, so relying on your intuition or your partner's word that they're infection-free could be a big mistake.

More and more couples are talking about "pegging" aka female-on-male anal sex -- usually with a snicker.

Maybe the idea of role reversal/hole reversal sounds so spicy, a small nervous chuckle is in order?

Once he's experienced that first mind-blowing orgasm, the laughter usually subsides pretty quickly.

Here are some tips and ideas on how to bring pegging into your bedroom.
